Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you about a recent development that has necessitated a change to our school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. The Winnsboro Independent School Board held a special called meeting on Friday, September 29 to discuss and address this issue. As a result of the meeting, the board adopted an updated school calendar and all Early Release Days previously scheduled for the 2023-2024 school-year will now be regular full-length school days. An additional update was made to change Friday, March 29 from a Bad Weather Make-up Day to an All-School Holiday in observance of Good Friday.
The reason for this adjustment to our calendar is due to significant recent changes in the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook issued by the Texas Education Agency. These changes have a direct impact on the way our district's funding is calculated, particularly in terms of funding minutes. As a result, it has become essential for us to revise our school calendar to align with these new guidelines.
We understand that this alteration may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize for any disruptions this may cause to your schedules and plans. Please know that we have carefully considered the implications of these changes and believe that they are necessary to ensure that our students continue to receive the best education possible.
We value your understanding and support as we navigate these adjustments. Our commitment to providing a high-quality education to your children remains unwavering, and we will do our utmost to minimize any disruptions caused by this calendar change.
The updated calendar is available on the WISD website and Facebook pages, the changes are highlighted in red on the new calendar. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The Winnsboro Community Resource Center and Pantry has officially challenged the Mt. Vernon Tigers on Oct. 6th. Cans will be collected at school and in the community starting today and ending next Thursday, October 5th. Also, at the Friday night game, can goods can be brought and dropped off at the gate as you enter the stadium. These will be counted in with what has already been collected during the week. Two tents will be set up to receive the can goods. One for Winnsboro and one for Mt. Vernon. The winner will be announced at half time. The winner will receive $1,000 and the second place will receive $500.
Both pantries need to be restocked as the holiday season is upon us. Please know the need is greater than ever before.
